Introduction to Quantum Computers and Current Advancements

Abstract

In this period of supercomputers, quantum computing is the next big thing. One of the most successful theories which have shaped scientific progress during the twentieth century is quantum computing. Quantum computers have the potential to offer much more than just stuffing bits to silicon and multiplying the clock speed of microprocessors. Based on the principles of quantum mechanics,1 it can support a new kind of computation with quantitatively as well as qualitatively new algorithms using probabilities. The limitations of classical computers and the possibilities for the quantum computer to perform useful tasks more quickly drive the study of quantum computing.
