Abstract

‘Make in India’ as a policy initiative is not only being watched by the world but is attracting good overseas support. There is a complementary opposition from local political groups, who await to see its debacle, though the causes essentially arise from system level aberrations, which are not attributed to the present government. However to favour a success, instituting a due corrective and preventive action is mandatory, which is envisaged through application of Lean thinking.

This paper attempts to make a case of leaning the processes so as to ease the resource constraints and accents on improving people skills, who should get oriented to maximize value @ customer needs or usefulness.

After defining Lean, the exquisite role of operators is accented and who should be mentored to innovatively exploit the experiences and operator skills towards fulfillment of customer needs. Implementation of Lean through scheduled model as a pre-requisite requires that the operators are adequately aligned and cultured; for which complementation of skill India mission with ‘Make in India’ is perhaps vital.
