Abstract

Water resources and ecosystems are increasingly threatened by contamination and degradation due to anthropogenic activities. This review article explores various remediation techniques aimed at protecting and restoring water quality and ecological integrity. We discuss both conventional and innovative approaches, highlighting their effectiveness, challenges, and future prospects. Conventional methods such as sediment dredging, chemical precipitation, and bioremediation have been widely employed but often come with limitations related to cost, efficiency, and ecological disruption. In contrast, advanced techniques like nanotechnology, electrochemical methods, and membrane technologies show promise in overcoming these limitations through enhanced efficiency and specificity in pollutant removal. Case studies from urban water bodies and industrial sites demonstrate the practical applications and benefits of these remediation strategies. The article also addresses the technical, economic, and regulatory challenges in implementing these technologies and emphasizes the need for integrated approaches and continued research to ensure sustainable management of water resources.
