Abstract

The increasing severity and frequency of climate change-related events, such as extreme rainfall, flooding, droughts, and rising temperatures, pose significant challenges to water resource management and hydraulic engineering systems. As water resource systems globally face unprecedented pressures, the need for adaptive strategies in hydraulic engineering has never been greater. This review explores the impacts of climate change on water resource systems, specifically focusing on the adaptation of hydraulic engineering practices to enhance resilience. The paper examines the vulnerability of hydraulic structures, such as dams, levees, and irrigation systems, and discusses the role of innovative engineering solutions and sustainable management practices in mitigating climate risks. Key adaptive measures, including the integration of climate projections, advanced modeling techniques, and the adoption of nature-based solutions, are highlighted to improve the robustness of water systems. By addressing the ongoing challenges posed by climate change, this review provides insight into future directions for resilient water resource infrastructure.
