Abstract

The spanwise inward flow nature of forward swept wing makes it advantageous from the tip stall consideration point of view. Thus, the low speed handling characteristics are good compared to swept back wing. The subsonic to supersonic change in aerodynamic coefficients are smoother compared to swept back wing, thereby making it candidate for consideration. The minimum drag camber FSW is designed herein for supersonic speeds and analyzed. Subsonic leading edge and Supersonic leading edge conditions are handled. Comparison of forward swept wing is made with swept back wing. Forward swept wing is known to have aeroelastic divergence problem that can be overcome through use of modern composites and internal ply arrangements.
