Abstract

The proliferation of online gaming has created new avenues for entertainment while simultaneously increasing exposure to digital risks, including scams and fraudulent activities. This study investigates the relationship between online gaming behaviour, experiences of online gaming scams, emotional stress, and perceptions of preventive awareness among users in Ahmedabad and Rajkot. A total of 178 respondents participated in a structured survey, covering demographic characteristics, gaming habits, scam exposure, emotional consequences, and perceptions of preventive measures. Descriptive analysis indicated that the majority of respondents were young adults (18–25 years), predominantly working professionals and students, highlighting the concentration of active gaming behaviour within this demographic. Hypothesis testing revealed significant relationships between age and gaming activity (p = 0.032, r = 0.41), gaming activity and scam exposure (p = 0.018, r = 0.48), and scam experiences and emotional stress or trust issues (p = 0.000, r = 0.67).
