Abstract

India is the country where most of the roads are paved with bitumen. Thus in India, there is a large scope of flexible pavements. There is also a huge amount of traffic on the roads like cars, commercial vehicles, overloading of trucks etc. Thus these pavements have to bare large stresses due to the traffic load. Also, there is a large seasonal variation in the temperature. Thus the above two factors i.e. load and temperature variation are responsible for the early development of distresses in these pavements like rutting ravelling, cracking, bleeding, shoving, undulations and potholes. Due to temperature variation flexible pavements tend to become soft in summer and brittle in winter. Various studies reveal that the properties of bitumen and bituminous mixtures can be improved by adding some additives. In present work, ZycoTherm is used as an addictive and various tests are done to check the excellence of the mixture.
