Abstract

The rapid growth of the construction industry has significantly increased the demand for conventional concrete materials, resulting in excessive exploitation of natural resources and environmental degradation. Sustainable concrete mix design has emerged as an effective approach to reduce the environmental impact of construction activities by incorporating industrial waste materials into concrete production. This study investigates the use of fly ash, silica fume, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS), and recycled aggregates as partial replacements for conventional cement and aggregates in concrete mixes. The research evaluates the mechanical properties, durability characteristics, and structural performance of sustainable concrete. Experimental results demonstrate that industrial waste-based concrete exhibits improved compressive strength, reduced permeability, enhanced durability, and better resistance to aggressive environmental conditions compared to conventional concrete. The study concludes that sustainable concrete mix design can significantly contribute to environmental conservation, waste management, and the development of durable infrastructure while maintaining structural integrity and performance standards.
