Abstract

Sustainable and resilient infrastructure development has become a critical priority in the context of rapid urbanization, climate change, resource scarcity, and increasing frequency of natural disasters. Modern infrastructure systems such as transportation, water supply, energy, and urban built environments are highly interdependent and require integrated, interdisciplinary approaches for effective planning, design, and management. This paper presents a comprehensive review of sustainable and resilient infrastructure development through interdisciplinary engineering approaches, including civil, structural, environmental, transportation, geospatial, computer, and systems engineering. The study explores frameworks such as life-cycle assessment, resilience engineering, systems thinking, GIS-based modelling, and data-driven smart infrastructure solutions. Findings highlight that interdisciplinary collaboration significantly improves infrastructure adaptability, reduces life-cycle costs, enhances climate resilience, and supports long-term sustainability goals. The study concludes that future infrastructure systems must be designed through integrated engineering approaches combining technological innovation, environmental science, and socio-economic planning to ensure resilient and sustainable urban development.
