A Review of Linux Operating System Network Evolution and Modern Connectivity Frameworks
Abstract
As an open-source operating system, Linux has become one of the biggest players in modern computing environments. In the past few decades, Linux networking technologies have been developed to meet greater scalability, security, virtualization demand modern cloud computing infrastructure support distributed systems high-speed communication infrastructures. This is a review article that offers an extensive overview of Linux operating system networking and approaches based on present connectivity frameworks. This work investigates the evolution of the Linux network architecture in terms of network protocols, kernel networking mechanisms, virtualization technologies, software-defined networking (SDN), cloud-native infrastructures on the basic structure and its improvements for cybersecurity. Moreover, the article also delves into modern networking architectures like container networking, edge computing integration and smart traffic management platforms. The review mentions that Linux is powering enterprise servers, cloud platforms, Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems, and high-performance computing environments. These include exploring challenges related to network scalability, security threats, resource utilization efficiencies and potential progress in technology. Results show that its unrivaled flexibility, reliability, stability, security and open-source adaptability keep Linux at the top of modern networking infrastructures. The article also covers emerging trends and future directions which is useful for Linux networking technologies and connectivity frameworks.
