Abstract

In this paper, we evaluate the current status of higher education, paying special attention to the Indian setting. We observe that contemporary developments, like the widespread use of networking and other enabling technologies, have profoundly changed how people live, acquire knowledge, and complete activities, all of which have an impact on learning. Universities must continue to play an essential role in the face of ongoing societal upheaval. Although they have traditionally led educational trends, they are now expected to drive reforms in management, safety, and environmental protection. Technology is always changing, which emphasizes the necessity of process adaptation in this ever-evolving digital age. As such, academic institutions are adopting a range of astute measures to augment the standard of living and maximize the productivity of instructors and learners alike. But we argue that being smart is not enough for a modern university; rather, academic institutions should strive to become even smarter. "Smarter university," we mean an establishment in which faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders all exchange knowledge in an easy-to-understand manner. In this paper, we present and discuss a smarter university model that draws inspiration from the frameworks developed for smart city advancement.
