Abstract

The work presented here has been carried out to study the effect of various RANS turbulence models and their applicability on boundary layer flow over a flat plate. The study aims to establish guidelines on proper selection of turbulence models while performing a CFD analysis. Mesh resolution and sensitivity study over y+ for various turbulence models has been presented here. Guidelines on proper selection of turbulence models with respect to y+ value ranging from viscous sub-layer to fully turbulent layer has been listed as outcome of this work. Results of various numerical analyses have also been compared with analytically derived values. Ansys Fluent 19.1 has been used as numerical tool for all CFD simulations presented here.
