Abstract

This paper presents a review of the mechanical and tribological properties of a reinforced polymer matrix composite of graphite, Silicon Carbide (SiC), and Pineapple Leaf Fibre (PALF). Also investigated are the factors influencing the properties such as type and variety of natural fibres, type of matrix materials, fibre length and their orientation, surface treatment to improve the interfacial property of fibre, type of graphite, and its particle size. Also discussed is the tribological property of SiC and its application for improving the wear property of the composite. It is hoped that this review article would be useful to those working in the domain of polymer matrix composites with SiC, graphite and natural fibre leaves such as pineapple leaf.
