Abstract

This comprehensive review explores the multifaceted landscape of energy generation, emphasizing the imperative shift towards sustainable practices to meet the world's escalating energy demands. Distinguishing between renewable and non-renewable sources, the article underscores the promotion of eco-friendly options such as hydro-electric, solar, wind, tidal, bio-fuel, and geothermal energies. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7), the global pursuit aims to ensure universal access to clean, sustainable, and affordable energy by doubling energy efficiency by 2030 and augmenting the share of renewable energy in the overall mix. Examining the historical evolution of energy fuels, the article delves into the challenges associated with traditional biomass and the transformative impact of electrification on income generation and economic development. Disparities in energy consumption between developed and developing regions are highlighted, with a spotlight on the remarkable energy growth in China, the Middle East, and non-OECD Asian countries. Navigating the complexities of electricity generation, the article accentuates the promising avenues presented by distributed energy systems, microbial fuel cells, wind energy, and solar technologies. Proposing solutions for challenges in scaling up renewable energy, the narrative underscores the pivotal role of research and development in advancing technology, ensuring economic viability, and fostering a sustainable energy future for all. The conclusion emphasizes the urgency of collective commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship on the path to a resilient and equitable energy landscape.
