Abstract

During an earthquake, structures are exposed to severe ground
excitations, they are likely to deform in inelastic range and a large
amount of seismic energy is dissipated into the structures. Shear
walls are extensively utilized for buildings to withstand lateral loads
induced by the earthquakes. It is necessary to study, the actual seismic performance of the buildings with various types of the shear wall during an earthquake that can take place really at the site to estimate the distribution of forces and deformations. The present work attempts to understand the effectiveness of steel-concrete shear wall in buildings for the different seismic response. The scope of the study lies in providing the adequate lateral load resisting capacity for satisfactory performance of the multistory building in the incident of an earthquake.
