Evaluation and Performance Enhancement of a Signalized Intersection: Satdobato, Nepal
Keywords:
intersection, LOS, BOQ, signal timingAbstract
This study provides an overview of the current situation ofsignalized intersections in Satdobato. Satdobato, located in the central business district of Lalitpur connects busy approaches and faces congestion. The environment and traffic flow parameters are modeled in a microsimulation software ‘SIDRA Intersection 8.0’. The calibration and validation of the intersection model in the software are performed using field data. The performance of the intersection is evaluated based onthe LOS, and delay, and back of the queue.
The evaluation of the performance is followed by the implementation of the performance enhancement strategies. Optimization of the signal timing is performed by changing the cycle lengths and splitting the timing. Further, the continuous left-turning movement is controlled under signal time. Appropriate recommendations are provided based on the evaluation of the system performances after making changes in the model.
