The world is turning smarter day by day, thanks to the information and communication technologies (ICT), and with that are increasing the imperatives of quality of life. With cities turning smart, the governance, maintenance, upkeep, monitoring of resources all are likely to be improved, and turned effective and efficient.
The present article accents on the review of the status of road transport system, and how it has challenged the quality of life. When read in conjunction with that of improvement of smart vehicles (in same session), the case for smart infrastructure will be better understood.
Through the prognosis of the state of Indian highways, and the problems cited thereof, an attempt is made to declare that the hope of making cities smart in India is distant, and the development process cannot be without thorns, unless the concerns, say as in poor state of highways, are addressed. Some correction and preventive actions have been requested.
