‘Cast in India’-A Sequel of “Make in India”

Make in India, a core policy initiative, devised as on Sept. 2014 was initiated as a potent prescription to recharge the ailing manufacturing sector, which was further threatened with increasing capital imports and also dumping into India. Most of the ills were attributed to the leadership, as investigated by the quality guru WE Deming. The new government who started this corrective action, based it on the platter of good governance. This paper discusses the manufacturing scenario in the light of the quality of decision around “Make in India” and evaluate as to what extent the objective of rejuvenating manufacturing is achievable?
After establishing the qualitative requirements of manufacturing, the tenets of present manufacturing performance are compared and the handicaps viz use of technology and innovation identified. Evaluation of these difficulties are evaluated with a system approach, wherein by looking at the disparities in the sub technologies used in manufacturing, it is noted that the manufacturing system in ‘Make in India’ parlance is itself complex. If the sub-technologies are strategically handled, the achievment of success can be expedited or assured. It is also established that founding may not qualify as a sub set of manufacturing and neither the ‘Make in India’ initiative counts it so. However, looking at their contiguous nature manufacturing will be seen to hold high promise if it is complimented by say ‘Cast in India’ paradigm.
