Laser Beam Machining (LBM) is a non-traditional, computer numeric controlled machining process which is being used to machine a large variety of materials having intricate shapes, with high levels of accuracy and high quality surface finish that is difficult to attain with conventional machining processes. From last forty years, lasers have been in continuous use in industries and medical field. In manufacturing industry, lasers are successfully used for cutting metal sheet. The process incorporates production of thermal energy with the aid of beam that vaporizes the material. This method of laser beam machining is trending day by day due to its ability to cut metals as well as composite materials, high productivity and surface finish as compared to conventional methods of cutting. This paper represents various aspects of laser beam machining.
