Architectural Analysis of Jinnaaton Wali Masjid at Faizabad, India
Abstract
The mosque is a religious worship place of Muslims. The mosque studied in this paper is Jinnaaton Wali Masjid, presently located in Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, a northern state of India. It is one of the oldest mosques of Faizabad district. This paper focuses on the mosque design concept, architectural interventions, planning, architectural elements, decoration and style of 19th century Jinnaaton Wali Masjid of United Province of India. The methodology of study is through site visit, visual analysis, context analyzing, and preparation of drawings and climatic study with respect to orientation and direction of the mosque. The paper covers brief history of Faizabad, context zoning of mosque, different elements and spaces of the mosque along with the concept and planning of that 19th century. The visual survey and discussion with the local residing people has also been done. The different mosques elements are identified, enlisted and discussed in this paper. The architectural analysis of the studied mosque is done and the impact of the mosque structure on that urban neighborhood is explored. Further, the inferences of the study with the help of SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threats) analysis with reference to architecture and planning has been done in this paper.
