Abstract

Through Part II of directions in manufacturing research, we considered the call for a suitable strategy, and a road map to strengthen the forces @ glocal challenges and consequently responding through preparations for a World class manufacturing status@knowledge infrastructure that, in turn, should create further knowledge for stepping on to global competitiveness. In this part III. I attempt to extend the integration of erstwhile production maturity of the style of Mode 2 (as considered in part I) with more of integration with IT and a superior knowledge infrastructure in newer fourth phase of industrialization involving Cyber Physical Systems. Given that Mobility provides actionable visibility for global decision makers, the newer competencies that are deployed in this Operational technology transition in so called Industry 4.0 era, and concurrent collaboration with industry and academia who entice a dedicated IT support are likely to benefit with an effective machine-men interface. The attendant operational requirements and solicited benefits are harnessed. These include waste cutting, minimizing cost, balancing resources and energy, and total expected availability of equipment @ predictive maintenance. Such IT + OT collaborative era promises both challenges and new research opportunities with blue collar operations to rocket-fire the Technology Revolution. It is argued that the new Institutional Infrastructure will enable retention & reflexive control system, but the Consortium envisaging the maturation should wait till 2030-2039.
